Love, actually.

You guys have all seen romantic comedies (voluntarily or not). So you know the tropes, the archetypes. There are leading men and there are leading ladies. There are best friends. And then there are the best friends who were meant to be the lead all along. You know - the adorable, supportive best friend who is always there. When it's a guy, he's always the sweet, sensitive, smart guy. The guy who lets you cry about other guys. You know the type. If it's a girl, she's the tomboy. Spunky and funny, she drinks and cusses and likes sports. (As it turns out, I am this girl.) They're there for every heartbreak - seriously, these people are BETTER FRIENDS THAN ANYONE HAS EVER HAD EVER. How can the leading lady/man not see this?! Anyway, I've discovered lately that these archetypes really do exist in the world. And not as more nuanced, complicated versions either. There are actually these "best friends."

I am the guy's best friend. But here's where the movies get it wrong (this is where the fantasy comes in). The guys don't need you to get all dolled up to finally see what they've been missing all along. They see your potential already. And you're just their second choice.

Get off the back-burner, ladies. Find someone who thinks you're the best, not the second best.
